The Lead: After winning game one 9-4, the MIT baseball team looked to rally for the doubleheader sweep, scoring six unanswered runs in the late innings, but their comeback attempt fell just short as Montclair St. held on for a 9-6 win in game two.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME ONE
- MIT took an early 2-0 lead on RBI from junior
Malachi Soqui (Castaic, Calif.) and senior
Kennan Gumbs (New York, N.Y.). Senior
Teddy Schoenfeld (Boulder, Colo.) made it a 3-0 lead with an RBI single in the second.

- Soqui scored the fourth run of the day on an RBI single by Gumbs in the third and made it a 6-0 ballgame with a two-run homer in the fourth.

- The Red Hawks got on the board in the fourth on an RBI single and sacrifice fly, but junior
Brian Rapanan (Gurnee, Ill.) got out of the inning as Montclair St. left the bases loaded. Â

- Schoenfeld scored the seventh run of the day for MIT on an RBI single from graduate student
Kyle Sonandres (Torrance, Calif.) in the sixth. The home team responded in the bottom of the frame to make it a 7-3 contest.

- Senior
Michael Finch (Brentwood, Tenn.) knocked in two with a double in the eighth to put the Engineers up six.

Sam Angelo homered in the bottom of the ninth to make it a five-run game, but MIT held on for the 9-4 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Schoenfeld finished 4-5 with four runs scored and two stolen bases.

- Soqui led the way with three RBI while Finch and Gumbs knocked in two runs apiece.

- Rapanan earned his second win of the year as he went six innings and allowed three runs on seven hits. He walked one and recorded four strikeouts. Senior
Saketh Gabbita (Ashburn, Va.) pitched the last three innings and allowed one run on two hits with three strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME TWO
- The two teams were locked in a pitcher's duel until Montclair St. broke through with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. The host scored two runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to make it a 5-0 game.

- The Red Hawks extended their lead with four runs in the seventh to make it 9-0.

- The Engineers began their comeback in the eighth as junior
Reed Tubbs (Pflugerville, Texas) doubled home the Engineers first run of the day and scored on a single from Schoenfeld to make it 9-2. Sophomore
Zev Moore (Jerusalem, Israel) singled home two runs, and Finch doubled home Moore to make it 9-5.

Owen Malone (Portsmouth, R.I.) hit his first homer of the season with one out in the ninth to pull the Engineers to within three, but that is as close as they got as Montclair St. held on for the 9-6 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Schoenfeld went 3-4 with an RBI and run scored, and
Zev Moore added two hits and two RBI. Finch and Malone also had two hits in the ballgame.

Ethan Siegel (Austin, Texas) tossed 3.2 innings of perfect baseball with two strikeouts. Â
