The Lead:Â The MIT baseball team fell to Babson College on Tuesday afternoon, 14-8, in the team's NEWMAC opener at Fran O'Brien Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- After MIT got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning, the Beavers got five runs on the board through the fifth inning including a two-run homer from
Luke Tanner and an RBI single from
Ike Kiely.
- MIT scored three in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to one which included a two-run homer into right field from junior
Malachi Soqui (Castaic, Calif.).
- Babson scored three more runs in the top of the sixth and the Engineers' got one back in the bottom half on a solo homer to right from graduate student
Kyle Sonandres (Torrance, Calif.).
- The Beavers scored five runs in the next two innings to stretch their lead to 13-5. However, that lead was cut down to five when a three-run shot to left-center from junior
Reed Tubbs (Pflugerville, Texas.) made it 13-8, giving the Engineers one more chance to rally back.
- Tanner launched his second homer of the game into left-center in the top of the final inning as that would be the final run as the Beavers held on for the 14-8 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Sonandres lead the Engineers at the plate, going 3-for-5, while
Justin Guest lead the Beavers, going 4-for-5.
- Senior
Karl Meyer (Indianapolis, Ind.) falls to 2-2 on the season, while
James Clark improves to 2-1 on the year.

- MIT is on the road this Saturday in a NEWMAC doubleheader against No. 8 Salve Regina with the first pitch scheduled for 12:00 PM.
