- The Lead: The MIT women's swimming and diving team tied for the best finish in program history as the Engineers finished fifth at the 2024 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Junior
Kate Augustyn (Eau Claire, Wis.) captured her third National Championship as she completed the sweep of the backstroke events. In addition, all three MIT divers earned All-American honors.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:
100 Free
- First year Ella Roberson (Midland, Mich.) finished in fourth with a time of 50.35 as she tied with Valerie Mello of Pomona-Pitzer.
- First year Sydney Smith (Atlanta, Ga.) took 11th with a time of 51.25.
- Roberson has six All-Americans at this championship and Smith has three.Â
200 Back
- Junior Kate Augustyn (Eau Claire, Wis.) swept the back events as she took home her third National Championship with a time of 1:55.98, defeating Sophia Verkleeren by almost two seconds.
- Augustyn was .31 seconds off the national record.
- She records her 19th All-American honor.Â
200 Breast
- Graduate student Edenna Chen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded her 19th All-American honor with her 9th place finish as she touched the wall in 2:16.85.
- This is her fourth All-American honor in the event.Â
3-Meter Dive
- First year Fiora Beratahani (San Jose, Calif.) captured her second All-American honor with her seventh-place finish with a score of 463.05.
- Junior Rachel Loh (Arcadia, Calif.) brought home her fifth All-American award and second on the three-meter with a score of 414.50 to take 14th.
- Sophomore Emma Scott (Belmont, Calif.) took 12th with a score of 438.85 for her fourth All-American honor.Â
400 Free Relay
- MIT took third in the event with a time of 3:22.95.
- Roberson led off with a time of 50.61, and Smith followed with a time of 50.21. Senior Helen Sun (Solon, Ohio) swam a 51.95, and Augustyn swam an anchor leg of 50.18.
- Roberson totaled seven All-Americans at her first championship while Smith grabbed four. Sun earned her first All-American honor, and Augustyn now has 20, which is five shy of the program record.
