Men’s Lightweight Crew Defeats Columbia at National Collegiate Lightweight Invitational

THE BASICS:
 
- Event: National Collegiate Lightweight Invitational
 
- Location: Leonia, N.J. (Overpeck Park)
 
- The Lead: The MIT men's lightweight crew team kicked off the spring season with a full day of racing on Saturday at the National Collegiate Lightweight Invitational in New Jersey, highlighted by a victory against Columbia's Varsity 8+.
 
INSIDE THE RACES:
 
- V8 vs. Georgetown: In a very close race, Georgetown took the early lead with MIT right on their bow ball from the start. The Hoyas held the lead finishing with a time of 6:03.761 as the Engineers crossed the line 2.972 seconds behind them with a time of 6:06.733
 
- 2V8 vs. Georgetown: Georgetown had a fast start crossing the line at 6:15.666 and MIT could not move through them finishing with a time of 6:33.934.
 
- V8 vs. Columbia: The Engineers immediately took the lead in the first 500 and Columbia never made a move through them, coming away with a win in 6:15.038. The Lions followed 3.289 seconds later with a final time of 6:18.327.
 
- 2V8 vs. Columbia: Columbia's 3V took the lead in the first 500 and never looked back, finishing with a time of 6:26.129. MIT had a fast start but couldn't hold off the Lions' 2V which crossed the line at 6:35.253. MIT finished 5.303 seconds behind with a time of 6:40.556.
