The Lead: No. 16 MIT generated four goals during the first five minutes of action before going on to defeat Wellesley College, 23-3, in a NEWMAC women's lacrosse game on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore
Ashley Thomas (Summit, N.J.) posted seven goals and one assist for the Engineers as
Amelia Dupont and
Finley Tipton both notched two points for the Blue.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Thomas opened the scoring after 2:12 elapsed, kicking off a string of seven unanswered goals in the first quarter. She would add two more goals while senior
Ellie Rabenold (Cincinnati, Ohio) produced two goals and an assist.

- MIT went on another 7-0 run, establishing a 14-0 advantage with 7:35 left in the second quarter. Thomas tallied three goals and one assist while Rabenold recorded back-to-back player advantage goals. Tipton ended the shutout when she redirected a feed from Dupont with 5:19 on the clock.

- Thomas found the back of the net early in the third quarter, however, Tipton countered with a free-position goal, making the score 15-2 at the 11:29 mark. The score remained unchanged until the Engineers put together a three-goal burst during the last six minutes, capped by senior
Katie Bell's (Radnor, Pa.) first career goal as time expired.

- Just over two minutes into the fourth quarter, Dupont set up
Katie McCabe for a player advantage goal. MIT replied with five goals down the stretch with junior
Sydney Pyon (Garnet Valley, Pa.) accounting for two goals and an assist.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Pyon finished with four goals, three assists, four draw controls, and two groundballs while Rabenold posted four goals and one assist. First-year
Jillian Butler (Brecksville, Ohio) led all players with six draw controls while sophomore
Gwen Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) notched five draw controls and two groundballs.

- In net, sophomore
Molly Dulde (Delafield, Wis.) registered three saves and two groundballs in the first half while first-year
Christina Fradella (Massapequa, N.Y.) closed out the game with two saves and two groundballs.

Anna Tutek and
Ryan Boone both had three groundballs and two caused turnovers for the Blue.
Anna Blake Patrick tallied five saves, two groundballs, and two caused turnovers in the first half while
Cianna Salvatora made five saves during the final 30 minutes.
