THE BASICS:

- The Lead: The MIT women's lacrosse team scored 33 seconds into the game to set the tone for the rest of the night as they cruised to a 24-5 victory over Emerson on Wednesday night in NEWMAC action. Junior Julianne Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) led the Engineers with nine points on four goals and five assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Thirty-three seconds into the game, junior Sydney Pyon (Grant Valley, Pa.) scored the first goal for the Engineers. MIT jumped to a 10-0 lead until two minutes left in the period when the Lions netted one to get on the board. The Engineers quickly responded with a bomb from Pyon to end the period leading 11-1.
- The Engineers continued to increase their advantage as they scored six unanswered goals in the second quarter, establishing a 16-goal margin at halftime. Senior Ellie Rabenold (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored back-to-back goals twice in the second quarter while also notching two assists in the opening frame.
- MIT continued its hot streak with three goals to open the third quarter. Emerson responded with a free position goal 6:45 into the third quarter. Senior Faith Bulan (New Providence, N.J.) produced a quick goal to follow, but the Lions found the back of the net with 2:25 left to end the period.
- The Lions started and ended the fourth quarter with a goal while the Engineers responded with three in the final frame for a final score of 24-5.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Eleven different Engineers scored in tonight's game. Sophomore
Gwen Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) tallied one goal, two assists, two ground balls, and three caused turnovers while sophomore
Ashley Thomas (Summit, N.J.) generated three goals and four assists.
- Pyon produced three goals, an assist, three groundballs, and one caused turnover while first-year
Jillian Butler (Brecksville, Ohio) registered two goals, two ground balls, and a caused turnover. Sophomore
Annica Lam (Livingston, N.J.) tallied three goals and a ground ball while junior Sydney Hawkins (Franklin, Mass.) registered one goal, two ground balls, and one caused turnover.
- In net, sophomore
Molly Dulde (Delafield, Wis.) earned the win facing a total of seven shots the entire game.
