The Lead: First year
Mero Elmarassy (Santa Clara, Calif.) represented the MIT squash team at the College Squash Association Individual Championships.
The Engineers were awarded the Sloane Award for Sportsmanship for the second time in program history. The award is presented to one women's team and one men's team and is voted on by the team's peers.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the opening round in the Molloy North Division, Elmarassy fell to
Fritiof Jacobsson of Drexel, 11-5, 11-5, 11-5.
- Elmarassy moved onto the semifinals of the consolation bracket after
Sharan Punjabi of Franklin and Marshall defaulted on the match.
- In the semifinals of the consolation bracket, Elmarassy fell to
Matthew Wang of Navy, 11-6, 11-7, 11-7.
- Elmarassy concluded his first season with a 7-20 record with all of his matches being played in the top position.
