Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 15 Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 20 Babson, 10-7

THE BASICS:

- Score: No. 20 Babson College 10, No. 15 MIT 7

- Records: MIT (11-2, 5-1 NEWMAC); Babson (11-1, 7-0 NEWMAC)

- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Jack Barry Field)

- The Lead: A four-goal run that spanned the third and fourth quarters created enough of a cushion as No. 20 Babson College went on to defeat No. 15 MIT, 10-7, in a NEWMAC women's lacrosse game on Wednesday night. Sophomore Ashley Thomas (Summit, N.J.) paced the Engineers with three goals while Amelia Novitch powered the Beavers with three goals and an assist.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Babson jumped out to a 3-0 lead as Novitch and Jessica Evans converted free-position attempts while Michaela Downer produced an unassisted goal at the 7:52 mark. MIT countered with a trio of eight-meter goals during the final 1:44 of the first quarter. Sophomore Nina Petulla (Natick, Mass.) notched a player-advantage tally as junior Sydney Pyon (Garnet Valley, Pa.) and Thomas completed the scoring burst.

- Novitch gave the Beavers a 4-3 edge courtesy of a free-position goal just 1:03 into the second stanza. However, Pyon generated one of her own exactly 20 seconds later. Downer quickly responded with another unassisted goal before a defensive battle ensued. Evans ended the stalemate with a player-advantage goal, moving the score to 6-4 with 3:39 remaining.

- Senior Meredith Arterburn (Cooksville, Md.) cut MIT's deficit in half at the 11:46 mark of the third quarter, but Nicole Darveau buried a free-position shot less than two minutes later. Novitch then completed the hat trick and increased the Beavers' lead to 8-5 with 5:14 on the clock.

- Downer found the back of the net almost four minutes into the fourth quarter as Lily Ives redirected a feed from Novitch for Babson's final goal of the night with six minutes left to play. Despite the deficit the Engineers continued to attack as Thomas provided the last two goals for the hosts.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Senior Ellie Rabenold (Cincinnati, Ohio) collected a team-high four draw controls followed by two from Pyon. Junior Faith Bulan (New Providence, N.J.) totaled three caused turnovers and two groundballs while Arterburn and senior Katie Bell (Radnor, Pa.) both chipped in two groundballs. In net, sophomore Molly Dulde (Delafield, Wis.) made 10 saves for MIT.

- Clare Connolly led all players with 10 draw controls as Kayleigh Hacker and Anna Costello both generated three caused turnovers and two groundballs. In net, Kathleen Murphy tallied seven saves, two groundballs, and a caused turnover for the Beavers.

UP NEXT:

- MIT travels to new NEWMAC opponent Salve Regina University for an 11:00 a.m. game on Saturday, April 13 while Babson will visit No. 16 Amherst College the following day for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference tilt.
