THE BASICS:

Score: Colby - 11, MIT - 9

Records: MIT (2-8), Colby (5-4)

Location: Waterville, Maine (Seaverns Field)

The Lead: After the MIT men's lacrosse team jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, Colby used a 5-0 run to pull ahead as the Mules held off a late Engineer run to hold on to an 11-9 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- MIT got goals from four different players in the first quarter of play to take a 4-0 lead. The Engineers' defense held the Mules to just four shots in the first quarter of play.

- The Mules got a goal from Cormac O'Neill at 14:45 to cut the MIT lead to three, but sophomore Zach Bleil (New Cannan, Conn.) scored his second of the game off a pass from junior Ethan Robertson (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) to make it 5-1 MIT.

- Colby scored five straight goals to take a 6-5 lead but junior Dylan Nelson (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) set up junior Nick Stiles (New Canaan, Conn.) for a goal at 6:37 in the third to tie the game up at six. Back-to-back Mules goals almost a minute apart put the home team back on top 8-7.

- Sophomore Bryce Metalios (Old Greenwich, Conn.) got MIT back to within one with his ninth goal of the year at 13:15 in the fourth, but Colby went on another run, with three straight goals to pull ahead 11-7. Senior Heath Nilsen (Carlsbad, Calif.) made it a three-goal game with 53 seconds left, and Metalios scored with 38 seconds left to pull MIT to within two, but the Mules held on for the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Bleil, Nilsen, and Metalios led MIT with two goals each in the game.

- Graduate student Andrew Palleiko (Hopkinton, Mass.) went 13-23 at the faceoff X and picked up five ground balls. Junior Patrick Timons (Woodside, Calif.) led the way with six groundballs and three caused turnovers.

- Graduate student David Vapnek (San Diego, Calif.) made eight saves in goal.
