The Lead: MIT scored seven runs in the first three innings to pull away from Rhode Island College, 10-6, in an afternoon non-conference game at Fran O'Brien Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- MIT collected seven runs in the first three innings to give themselves a 7-0 cushion, including RBI singles from graduate student
Kyle Sonandres (Torrance, Calif.), senior
Michael Finch (Brentwood, Tenn.), and
junior
Reed Tubbs (Pflugerville, Texas.).
- Rhode Island College got on the board with one run in the fourth inning while the Engineers responded as sophomore
Lawrence Tang (Hopkinton, Mass.) hit an RBI triple and came around to score on a sacrifice fly from sophomore
Eitan Moore (Jerusalem, Israel) to push their lead to 9-1.
- The Anchormen collected three in the fifth inning with an RBI double from
Cameron Earl and a single from
Sean Helfrich, which brought in two to cut it down to 9-4
. A double down the right-field line from Sonandres brought home another runner for the Engineers, pushing their to 10-4.
- Rhode Island College got an RBI double from
Parker Camelo in the eighth inning and an RBI single from
Lucas Pierce in the final inning before first-year
Jack Finnegan (Essex, Conn.) struck out Camelo to seal the win for MIT, 10-6.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Finch led the way for the Engineers, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI's. Tang and Tubbs followed behind as both went 2-for-3 and 2-for-4 with a triple each and two RBI's, respectively.
UP NEXT:
- MIT is back home in a NEWMAC doubleheader against Wheaton this Saturday, April 27. First pitch is slated for 12PM as the Engineers will honor their graduating class before the game..
