Baseball Drops 11-7 Non-Conference Game to Southern Maine

THE BASICS:
 
- Score: Southern Maine - 11, MIT - 7

- Records: MIT (14-17), Southern Maine (15-18)

- Location: Gorham, Maine (Ed Flaherty Field)

- The Lead: After MIT took an early 4-3 lead, Southern Maine scored eight runs in the third to defeat the Engineers 11-7 on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Sophomore Zev Moore (Jerusalem, Israel) singled home the first run of the day for MIT, but the Huskies got a three-run homer from Anthony Poole to take a 3-1 lead.
 
- Senior Teddy Schoenfeld (Boulder, Colo.) tripled home two runs to tie the game and came around to score on a sacrifice bunt by graduate student Jake Sonandres (Torrance, Calif.) to give the Engineers a 4-3 lead.
 
- Southern Maine scored eight times in the third to go up 11-4.
 
- Junior Reed Tubbs (Pflugerville, Texas) singled home two runs in the fourth, and sophomore Lawrence Tang (Hopkinton, Mass.) doubled home a run in the fifth to get the Engineers to within four, but the Huskies held on for the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Schoenfeld went 2-5 with two runs and two RBI from the leadoff spot. Tang and Moore also notched two hits each in the game.
 
- First-year Jack Finnegan (Essex, Conn.) tossed four innings of two-hit ball and did not walk a batter.
