The Lead:Â MIT's explosive 13 goal-first period was more than enough as the No. 16 Engineers defeated Mount Holyoke College, 25-2, in a NEWMAC women's lacrosse game on Saturday. The victory helped extend the hosts' winning streak to nine games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- MIT put on a scoring clinic in the beginning frame, collecting 13 goals to open up the game while not allowing one goal for Mount Holyoke. Junior
Julianne Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) collected all four of her goals in the period while sophomore
Ashley Thomas (Summit, N.J.) earned a hat trick. Junior
Sydney Pyon (Garnet Valley, Pa.) scored two as senior
Ellie Rabenold (Cincinnati, Ohio), sophomore
Gwen Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.), sophomore
Nina Petulla (Natick, Mass.), and first-year
Jillian Butler (Brecksville, Ohio) each notched a goal for the Engineers.

- MIT once again held the Lyons scoreless in the second period while scoring six goals of their own. Thomas, Rabenold,
Gwen Flusche, Pyon, and senior
Grace Harrington (Seattle, Wash.) each found the back of the net while first-year
Ava Malysa (Manhasset, N.Y.) scored the first of her two goals in the period.
- Mount Holyoke ended the shutout with a goal from
Emi Bisson at the 7:11 mark of the third quarter, however, MIT registered four goals in the period to increase its advantage to 23-1.
- The Engineers added two more goals in the final period, which came from Thomas and first-year
Alexa Cohen (Media, Pa.). The Lyons'Â second and final goal of the game was a player-advantage strike byÂ
Ella Phillips with 35 seconds remaining.

- Pyon won six draw controls for the Engineers while
Monica Petulla,
Julianne Flusche, and Butler each collected five groundballs. Rabenold dished out five assists as Butler finished with four caused turnovers.

Pauline Vien (Brookline, Mass.) made one save in the first half and collected her second win of the year for MIT while first-year
Christina Fradella (Massapequa, N.Y.) finished out the game.Â
Syd Baker made 10 saves for Mount Holyoke.
