The Lead:Â The MIT baseball team dropped a road doubleheader to WPI on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME ONE
- WPI grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI double to right from
Andrew Cash with no outs. Junior
Brian Rapanan (Gurnee, Ill.) struck out the next two WPI batters and got a groundout to leave Cash stranded.
- MIT took the lead in the third. Junior
Reed Tubbs (Pflugerville, Texas) knocked in the tying run with a single up the middle, and graduate student
Kyle Sonandres (Torrance, Calif.) plated two with a single to center to put MIT up 3-1.
- WPI scored five unanswered runs to take a 6-3 lead into the top of the eighth. Sonandres knocked in his third run of the day on a single to center to cut the WPI lead to two runs, but WPI got MIT in order in the ninth to secure the 6-4 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Sonandres led the way for MIT with three hits and three RBI. Senior
Teddy Schoenfeld (Boulder, Colo.) and Tubbs each had two hits in the contest.
- Rapanan tossed 5.1 innings and recorded seven strikeouts.
Owen Radcliffe tossed eight innings for WPI and gave up nine hits with no walks and four Ks.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME TWO
- WPI took a 5-0 lead after one, but MIT cut it to one with a four-run fifth. Junior
Malachi Soqui (Castaic, Calif.) led off with a homer and back-to-back bases loaded walks to Tubbs and Sonandres cut it to 5-3. Schoenfeld came around to score the fourth run of the inning before WPI got out of the frame.
- WPI scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to go up 7-4, however, Soqui hit his second homer of the game in the sixth, and senior
Michael Finch (Brentwood, Tenn.) knocked in Sonandres in the seventh to get MIT back to within one.
- WPI scored eight runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the 15-6 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Sonandres went 2-3 with two walks, an RBI, and a run scored. Souqi also added two hits with two runs, two RBI, and two runs scored.
- First-year
Tye Phoenix (Naples, Fla.) tossed three innings and allowed two hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
