No. 13 Field Hockey Falls to Endicott, 4-1

BEVERLY, Mass.  – Endicott College posted three goals in the first half as it went on to defeat No. 13 MIT, 4-1, in a non-conference field hockey game on Tuesday night. Senior Eva Oppenheim (Larkspur, Calif.) scored the lone goal for the Engineers.
 
THE BASICS:
  • Score: Endicott 4, No. 13 MIT 1
  • Records: No. 13 MIT (2-1 Overall); Endicott (2-2 Overall) 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • Endicott got on the scoreboard first with 59 seconds remaining in the opening quarter.
  • The Gulls increased their advantage to 3-0 following a pair of goals during the last 4:38 of the second stanza.
  • MIT controlled the action during the early stages of the third quarter as it produced three penalty corners and two shots on goal. Following a flurry of saved shots Oppenheim knocked in the rebound of her previous attempt, ending the shutout in the 37th minute.
  • Both teams continued to attack, but the score remained unchanged until Endicott found the back of the cage in the 48th minute.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Sophomore goalie Maeve Zimmer (Rockville, Md.) made six saves for the Engineers.
  • The Engineers ended the night with a 21-18 margin in shots (15-10 on goal) after being held to three shots (two on goal) in the first half. The Gulls, meanwhile, had a 13-12 edge in penalty corners; however, MIT was awarded 11 in the second half.
