Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Two Late Goals Lift No. 4 Women's Soccer to a 2-1 Win Over No. 23 Brandeis

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After falling behind early in the second half, the No. 4 MIT women's soccer team scored two goals in the game's final 10 minutes to earn a thrilling 2-1 victory over No. 23 Brandeis on Saturday afternoon on Roberts Field.
 
THE BASICS
  • Score: No. 4 MIT 2,  No. 23 Brandeis 1
  • Records: MIT (4-0-0 Overall), Brandeis (3-1-0 Overall) 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • The first half was a defensive battle between the two teams as they combined for eight shots with only one on goal in the first 45 minutes of action.
  • The Judges got on the board at 54:36 when sophomore Tanvi Raju (Hyderabad, India) dribbled past the MIT defense and placed her shot into the lower corner of the net.
  • With time running down the Engineers' offense came to life when senior Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) sent a pass back to senior Emiko Pope (St. Louis, Mo.) who slid in and knocked the ball into the back of the net to tie the match at 79:41.
  • Rowlett later found classmate Natalie Barnouw (Los Angeles, Calif.) in front of the goal where Barnouw put her shot into the lower corner to give MIT the lead at 82:35.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 
  • Rowlett brings her career point total to 116 with her two assists in the game. Her 22 career assists rank seventh all-time as she ranks in the top-10 in career goals, assists, and points.
  • Barnouw tallied her third score on the season and second game-winning goal while Pope tallied her second goal.
  • Sophomore Cassidy Jennings (Sioux Falls, S.D.) turned away two shots to move to 3-0.
  • Raju recorded her fifth goal of the season. Graduate student Rachel Ross (Portchester, N.Y.) fell to 4-1 as she made four saves in goal.
  • MIT is 3-0-2 in the last five meetings against Brandeis.
UP NEXT: 
  • MIT heads out on the road to Middlebury, Vt. where the Engineers will play No. 14 Middlebury at 12:00 PM on Sunday, September 15.
