MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – In a match-up of top-15 teams, the No. 4 MIT women's soccer team engineered its second straight second-half comeback to earn a 2-2 tie against No. 14 Middlebury on the road on Sunday afternoon.

This was the third overall meeting between the two teams (1-1-1 all-time) and the first since 2017. The previous two meetings were both 1-0 games in the NCAA Tournament.

THE BASICS
  • Score: No. 4 MIT 2, No. 14 Middlebury 2

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The hosts grabbed two quick goals midway through the first half. Sophomore Mia Feldman (Salt Lake City, Utah) sent over a pass from the left side of the box to senior Abby Ward (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.) who put the shot into the far-right corner at 18:01. At 23:03 Feldman rifled a shot off the outstretched hands of Ava Muffoletto (Kings Park, N.Y.) to double the Middlebury lead.
  • MIT began its comeback when Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) got the Engineers on the board at 49:38 as she stole the ball from the Middlebury defender, got the ball past her, and fired a shot to the upper corner of the net to cut the Panthers lead in half.
  • First year Maeve Sullivan (San Antonio, Texas) sent a corner kick into the front of the box where sophomore Madelyn Popilek (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) headed the ball into the goal to tie the game at two at 64:19.
  • Both teams were looking for the win in the final minutes of the match, but goalkeepers Sydney Poppinga (New York, N.Y.) and Cassidy Jennings (Sioux Falls, S.D.) made key saves to keep the match tied.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Rowlett recorded her second goal on the year and 48th of her career, bringing her four away from tying the program record of 52. She has recorded a point in all but one game this season.
