NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Led by two first-half goals from senior
Natalie Barnouw (Los Angeles, Calif.), the No. 3 MIT women's soccer team earned a 5-1 road NEWMAC victory at Smith College on Saturday afternoon.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore Madelyn Popilek (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) sent a cross to Barnouw for her first score of the game at the 9:50 mark. Barnouw converted her second goal of the half as she flicked a shot from outside the box over the keeper at 22:42.
- Sophomore Ayla Sumer (Dallas, Texas) made it a 3-0 game when she got a loose ball in front of the cage and found the back of the net at 27:48.
- Doss collected the free kick from Barnouw and put the ball past a diving Skylar Smith (Carlisle, Mass.) at 57:05.
- Smith broke through with a goal by Raven Tebbetts (North Haven, Conn.) at 59:14.
- Junior Alice Vranka (Bronxville, N.Y.) wrapped up the scoring for the Engineers with her goal at 80:29 when she got the ball in front and fired a shot past her defender into the goal.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Barnouw now has a team-high five goals and 11 points. Her five points in the game ties a career high.
- Doss recorded her fourth goal while Popilek got her first assist. Sumer and Vranka notched their first goals of the season.
- First year Maddy Noll (Northbrook, Ill.), junior Ava Muffoletto (Kings Park, N.Y.) and first year Shannon Cordle (Marysville, Ohio) all saw time in net for MIT.
- Smith made 12 saves in goal for the Pioneers.
- MIT outshot Smith 22-2.
