No. 15 Field Hockey Tops Springfield, 4-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.  Four different players found the back of the net in No. 15 MIT's 4-0 win over Springfield College in NEWMAC field hockey action on Saturday afternoon at Jack Barry Field.
 
THE BASICS: 
  • Score: No. 15 MIT 4, Springfield College 0

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • MIT opened the scoring in the 12th minute when senior Alice Zehner (Gladwyne, Pa.) collected the rebound of a saved shot and passed it to senior Ashley Lederman (Villanova, Pa.) who sent a blast from the top of the arc.
  • Junior Bailey McIntrye (Concord, Mass.) increased the Engineers' lead when she sent an arcing shot to the inside of the far post in the 20th minute.
  • MIT doubled its advantage to 4-0 in the third quarter. On a penalty corner, senior Eva Oppenheim (Tiburon, Calif.) redirected a feed from senior Faith Choe (San Diego, Calif.) in the 38th minute. With 4:38 left in the frame, junior Hannah Hicks (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) corralled the rebound of a saved shot at the near post and passed the ball to the middle of the arc. Sophomore Audrey Oh (Longmeadow, Mass.) gathered it and backhanded a shot to the top far post.
  • Springfield's best scoring chance came in the 50th minute but senior Molly Collins's (Franklin, Mass.) shot was blocked.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • In net, sophomore Maeve Zimmer (Rockville, Md.) and senior Anna Duncan (St. Louis, Mo.) played 40 and 20 minutes, respectively, and were not forced to make a save.
  • Junior Kaitlyn Parent (Glastonbury, Conn.) made eight saves for the Pride.
  • MIT led the way in shots (19-3), shots on goal (12-0), and penalty corners (11-3).
UP NEXT:
  • Both teams take on non-conference opponents on the road on Wednesday, October 2 at 7:00 PM. MIT will travel to Roger Williams University while Springfield will visit Connecticut College.
