No. 7 Men's Swim and Dive Falls Just Short Against Boston University, 141-139

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 7 MIT men's swimming and diving team fell just short of a victory over Division I Boston University as the Terriers were able to sneak by the Engineers on Friday night at the Zesiger Center Pool. 

THE BASICS:   
Scores: Boston University – 141, MIT - 139 

HOW IT HAPPENED:   

400 Medley Relay 

  • MIT opened the meet by taking the top two spots in the event. Sophomore Aitor Arrese-Igor (Delray Beach, Fla.), first year Grant Hu (Allen, Texas), senior Jalen Evans (Danville, Calif.), and junior Eugene Jiang (Baton Rough, La.) took the top spot in 3:19.24. Junior Zack West (Kailua, Hawaii), junior Thomas Wu (Cedar Park, Texas), first year Ben Wu (New Canaan, Conn.), and Aaron Martin finished second in 3:20.91. 

200 Free 

  • First year Nathan Kim (La Crescenta, Calif.) won the event in 1:38.98. 

50 Back 

  • Arrese-Igor won the event in 22.85 followed by West in third with a time of 23.50.  

50 Breast 

  • First year Aaron Martin (Phoenix, Ariz.) took first with a time of 25.69 and Thomas Wu finished third with a final time of 26.05. 

200 Fly 

50 Free 

  • Jiang finished second in 21.13 followed by Koh with a time of 21.41. 

100 Free 

  • Martin showed his versatility, taking the top spot in 45.83. 

200 Back 

  • Hu came in third with a time of 1:50.39.  

200 Breast 

  • Huang won the event with a time of 2:02.98. 

500 Free 

  • Sophomore John Tietjen (Leawood, Kan.) posted a time of 4:41.08 to finish second overall.  

50 Fly 

  • Ben Wu finished in 22.63 for second followed by Zhu in third.  

200 IM 

  • The Engineers swept the podium led by sophomore Jason Wang (Brentwood, Tenn.) with a top time of 1:49.65. He was followed by Hu and Huang.  

400 Free Relay 

  • MIT closed out the meet with a win in the 400 Free Relay. The team of Martin, Jiang, Wu and Kim clocked in with a time of 3:01.12.  

1-Meter Dive 

  • Sophomore Jack Tucker (Naples, Fla.) finished in second with a score of 237.30. First year Truman Remenicky (Brewerton, N.Y.) finished fifth with a mark of 142.80.  

3-Meter Dive 

  • Tucker took third with a time of 228.30. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  

  • Kim achieved an NCAA B Cut in the 200 Free.  
  • Wang and Hu both achieved NCAA B Cuts in the 200 IM. 
  • The 400 Free Relay team hit an NCAA B Cut mark.  

UP NEXT:   

  • The Engineers are right back in the pool tomorrow, Saturday January 11 as they welcome Coast Guard to the Zesiger Center Pool for an 11:00 AM meet.
