CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –  The No. 7 MIT men's swimming and diving team earned a 191-103 victory over the United States Coast Guard Academy on Saturday afternoon at the Zesiger Center Pool. 

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:   

200 Medley Relay 

• The Engineer 'A' team of sophomore Aitor Arrese-Igor (Delray Beach, Fla.), junior Thomas Wu (Cedar Park, Texas), first year Aaron Martin (Phoenix, Ariz.), and junior Eugene Jiang (Baton Rouge, La.) kicked off the event with a win in the 200 Medley relay with a time of 1:33.28. 

1000 Free 

• First year Grant Hu (Allen, Texas) won the event with a time 9:33.27, besting Sean Lyman (Pennsburg, Pa.) by over 10 seconds.  

200 Free 

• Martin finished in second at 1:44.47 followed by junior Alvin Tsai (Mineola, N.Y.) in third with a time of 1:47.50.  

100 Back 

• The Engineers swept the top-three led by a first-place finish from Arrese-Igor (51.06). He was followed by junior Zack West (Kailua, Hawaii) in second and junior Theo Chen (Plano, Texas) in third.  

100 Breast 

• It was another sweep for MIT as senior Roderick Huang (Cupertino, Calif.) led the way with a winning time of 59.17. Wu followed in second with a time of 59.72 with sophomore Nathan Zhu (Lexington, Ky.) rounding out the top three with a time of 59.86. 

200 Fly 

• Sophomore Jason Wang (Brentwood, Tenn.) captured first in 1:54.38. First year Louis Avondet (Tokyo, Japan) finished in third with a time of 1:58.64. 

50 Free  

• Jiang finished in second with a time of 21.55 followed by first year Anthony Koh (Dresher, Pa.) in third with a time of 21.77.  

100 Free 

• Martin and Jiang finished second and third with times of 46.51 and 47.64.  

200 Back 

• West claimed the top spot in 1:54.99 followed by Arrese-Igor (1:55.65), and graduate student Aaron Zhu (Chelmsford, Mass.). 

200 Breast 

• MIT went 1-4 in the event led by Wang clocking in at 2:06.89. Huang followed in second with a time of 2:07.97 followed by first year Kelson Cantrell (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and senior Jacob McCarran (Pittsburgh, Pa.). 

500 Free 

• Hu took his second win of the day with a time of 4:36.65. Sophomore John Tietjen (Leawood, Kan.) finished in 4:47.95 for second.  

100 Fly 

• Ben Wu finished in 50.74 for second followed by Nathan Zhu in third with a time of 51.50. 

200 IM  

• Wang grabbed his second victory of the meet with a top time of 1:52.65. Aaron Zhu took third in 1:59.37. 

200 Free Relay 

• MIT closed the meet with a victory in the 200-Free relay. Martin, Koh, West, and Jiang finished in 1:24.73.  

3-Meter Dive 

• Jack Tucker (Naples, Fla.) won the event with a score of 229.79. 

1-Meter Dive 

• Tucker completed the sweep of the boards with a score of 231.90. 

UP NEXT:   

• MIT is back in action on Friday, January 17 against NYU and Williams. The Ephs will host the meet that is scheduled for a 2:00 PM start.
