NEW YORK, N.Y. – Sophomore Mero Elmarassy (Santa Clara, Calif.) of the MIT squash team competed in the Collegiate Squash Association (CSC) Individual Championships in New York City over the weekend. Elmarassy competed in the Molloy West Division.
Elmarassy received a first-round bye to advance to the semifinals where he took on Thomas Winston of Bowdoin. Elmarassy took the opening set 12-11 before Winston took sets two and three by scores of 11-6 and 11-2. Elmarassy forced a fifth set with an 11-6 victory, but Winston secured a trip to the finals with an 11-1 win in the decisive fifth set.
Elmarassy and the Engineers return to the courts on Thursday, January 30 for a 2:00 PM match against Williams at the Zesiger Center Courts.
