CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Two free throws by MIT senior
Angie Choi (Cypress, Calif.) with six seconds remaining secured a 68-63 victory over Colby College in a non-conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon. Choi paced the Engineers with 24 points, five assists, and three steals while sophomore Kate Olenik (Medfield, Mass.) generated a game-high 30 points to go along with six rebounds for the Mules.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Back-to-back three pointers by Choi midway through the first quarter ignited a 17-4 run that resulted in a 23-12 advantage at the end of the frame.
- MIT maintained a comfortable cushion in the second quarter as its lead grew to 41-22 following first-year Deana Prasad's (Cary, N.C.) jumper right before halftime. It was her second buzzer beater of the period as she drained a deep three before the shot clock expired at the 3:48 mark.
- The Engineers' double-digit margin held through the third quarter as a basket by Choi moved the score to 54-36 with two minutes remaining.
- Colby countered with a three from Olenik and a free throw by first-year Defne Pekinbas (Istanbul, Turkey), sparking a 21-5 run that brought the Mules within 59-57 courtesy of another Olenik trey with 1:39 left in regulation.
- MIT created some breathing room with a free throw and then a layup by senior Kamsi Nwogu (Algonquin, Ill.) during the next minute. However, Olenik replied with a layup with 29 seconds to go. Following two free throws by Choi, junior Lydia Mordarski (Mansfield, Mass.) sank two of her own, narrowing the gap to 64-61 with 18 seconds on the clock. After two more free throws from Choi, Olenik knocked down a jumper with seven seconds remaining. Choi then secured the victory for the Engineers at the charity stripe.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Prasad finished with 13 points and three steals while junior Alice Hall (Ambler, Pa.) totaled 11 points, seven rebounds, and four blocks. Nwogu ended the day with 11 points, four assists, four rebounds, two steals, and a block.
- Mordarski posted nine points, five rebounds, and two assists as sophomore Ana Von Rumouhr (Lexington, Mass.) grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Sophomore Amelia Hanscom (Andover, Mass.) bolstered Colby's defense with four steals.

- MIT will travel to Middlebury College on Tuesday, January 7 for a 5:00 PM tip off while Colby will conclude its road trip on Sunday, January 5 with a 1:00 PM game at Wellesley College.
