HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In a tightly played first quarter, a layup with 33 seconds left gave Middlebury a 14-12 edge.
- Sparked by a jumper from sophomore April Chan (Fremont, Calif.), the Engineers put together a 12-4 run that resulted in a 24-18 lead with 3:27 remaining in the second quarter. The Panthers replied with nine unanswered points, reclaiming a slight advantage heading into halftime.
- A three pointer by senior Sarah Berman (York, Pa.) brought MIT within 33-29 just over two minutes into the third quarter. However, Middlebury responded with a 16-4 run during the next 4:26. Sophomore Rachael Zacks (Glencoe, Ill.) drained a layup during MIT's ensuing possession, kicking off a 10-2 burst that narrowed the gap to 51-43 at the end of the frame.
- The Engineers stayed within striking distance as two free throws by junior Kaya Weiser (Villanova, Pa.) made the score 55-50 at the 4:51 mark of the fourth quarter. Over a minute later the Panthers hit a jumper, but Nwogu drained a free throw during MIT's next trip down the court. A defensive battle ensued until a layup by Nwogu trimmed the deficit to 57-53 with 1:16 remaining.
- Middlebury created some breathing room courtesy of a layup right before the shot clock expired, however, Nwogu responded with one of her own with 39 seconds left to play. This was as close as it would get as the Panthers secured the win at the charity stripe while junior Alice Hall's (Ambler, Pa.) free throw capped the scoring with five seconds to go.
