Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 11 Women's Soccer Slips By Springfield 4-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The No. 11 MIT women's soccer team got three second half goals to keep its NEWMAC winning streak intact as the Engineers defeated visiting Springfield 4-0 on Saturday afternoon on Roberts Field. 
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 4, Springfield 0 
  • Records: No. 11 MIT (11-2-0 Overall, 5-0-0 NEWMAC), Springfield (4-7 Overall, 3-2 NEWMAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Sasha Ceol raced to the front of the goal from behind the Pride defense to head in a corner kick from Natalie Barnouw for the first goal of the game for MIT at 21:26. 
  • Barnouw set up the second Engineer goal of the day as her cross-field pass got to Arianna Doss, who tucked the ball into the corner of the goal at 62:04.  
  • A few minutes later, Barnouw found the back of the net, powering a shot into the far upper corner of the goal from almost 20 yards out.  
  • Andrea Cummings and Amara Ukomadu got past the Pride defense where Cummings sent a pass to Ukomadu who split her defenders and hooked her shot into the far corner of the goal at 84:25.  
  • The Pride had multiple scoring chances in the second half, but Maddy Noll and the MIT defense kept the ball out of the goal to secure the shutout.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Barnouw now has 29 career assists and 43 career goals. On the season she leads the team with 11 goals and 30 points and is tied for the team lead with eight assists. 
  • Cummings recorded her fifth point of the season while Doss scored her fourth goal. 
  • Ceol and Ukomadu both scored their first goals of the season. The goal was the first for Ceol as an Engineer. 
  • Ava Muffoletto got the start and made one save in 45 minutes of play to improve to 9-0. Noll played the second half with three saves. 
  • Mairead Marsden made five saves for the Pride and fell to 1-2-0. Mallory Forgatch made three saves.  
  • The Engineers have won 19-straight NEWMAC regular season contests and have not allowed a goal in conference play this season.   

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT heads back on the road for a matchup against No. 9 Williams, tomorrow, Sunday October 12 at 12:30 PM. The Pride will play at Wheaton on Wednesday, October 15 at 3:30 PM.
