Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 11 Women's Soccer Blanks No. 9 Williams 1-0

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The No. 11 MIT women's soccer team earned a key 1-0 road win over No. 9 Williams on Sunday afternoon thanks to an early goal by Arianna Doss in the 20th minute at Cole Field.  

THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 1, Williams 0 
  • Records: No. 11 MIT (12-2-0 Overall, 5-0-0 NEWMAC), No. 9 Williams (7-2-3, 5-1-2 NESCAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Natalie Barnouw lifted a free kick to the front of the cage where Doss headed the ball into the goal at 19:46.  
  • The Ephs looked to tie the match late in the first, but shots from Isabel Konijnenberg and Chloe Lee were saved by Ava Muffoletto
  • The Engineers came out of the break looking to make it a 2-0 match but a shot from Ayla Sumer was saved by Margaret Huelin, and Doss saw her shot at 48:34 ring off the crossbar while Huelin turned away her shot at 51:19. 
  • Williams turned up the pressure late in the half, looking for the tying goal, but Muffoletto turned away three shots in the final 13 minutes to help MIT secure the win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • This is the third straight 1-0 win over the Ephs for the Engineers. 
  • MIT has now posted 10 clean sheets on the season and have given up just five goals this season. 
  • Muffoletto made a career-best eight saves to improve to 10-0 on the season. 
  • Doss scored her second goal in as many days and now has five on the season. Barnouw recorded her team-leading ninth assist and 31st point. 
  • Huelin made four saves in the contest.   

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers return to NEWMAC play with a 7:00 PM road contest against Clark on Wednesday, October 15. The Ephs head to Westfield St. On Tuesday, October 21 for a 7:00 PM start.
