Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 8 Women's Soccer Plays Mount Holyoke to 1-1 Draw

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The No. 8 MIT women's soccer team played Mount Holyoke to a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon on Roberts Field. 

The game was the Karenna Groff '22, MEng '23 Memorial Game which saw Leena Mehendale don Groff's number 24. 

 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 1, Mount Holyoke 1 
  • Records: No. 8 MIT (15-2-1 Overall, 8-0-1 NEWMAC), Mount Holyoke (1-9-1 Overall, 0-8-1 NEWMAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Mehendale sent a perfect corner kick right into the side of the goal at 17:20 to give MIT a 1-0 lead. 
  • Clarissa Govea withstood the Engineer offense in the first half, allowing just one goal while making seven saves. 
  • Govea continued to hold the MIT offense to just the one goal, making three more saves before Annie Bethell sent a pass through the MIT defender to Evie Krieg who put the ball into the net to tie the game at 71:10. 
  • The Engineers looked to have the game-winner late in the game off a Mehendale corner, but the header from Ella Conopask rang just off the crossbar and bounced out of the goal. 
  • Lauren Won and Madeline Seebeck had their shots saved by Govea in the final three minutes while a shot by Mehendale at 89:14 was blocked. 
  • Arianna Doss looked to have a one-on-one with Govea with just seconds remaining, but the Lyons defender slid in and kicked the ball away to preserve the 1-1 draw.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Mehendale scored her first goal of the season. 
  • Govea made 13 saves for Mount Holyoke. 
  • Ava Muffoletto did not face a shot in her first 45 minutes of play while Maddy Noll made one save in the second half.  

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers will head to Emerson for a 6:00 PM match on Wednesday, October 29 while the Lyons will host Springfield for a 7:00 PM contest.
