Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 8 Women's Soccer Takes 4-0 Road Win Over Emerson

BOSTON, Mass. - The No. 8 MIT women's soccer team took on Emerson on Wednesday night on Rotch Field and earned a key 4-0 victory for the Engineers' 14th shutout win of the season.  
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 4, Emerson 0 
  • Records: No. 8 MIT (16-2-1 Overall, 9-0-1 NEWMAC), Emerson (8-5-4 Overall, 6-2-2 NEWMAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Madeline Seebeck got a bouncing ball in front of the goal and spun through the Emerson defense and put a shot into the upper corner of the net at 33:18. 
  • Emma Wang deflected a goal kick back into the Emerson zone where Natalie Barnouw was able to collect the ball and rifle a shot from right outside the box into the corner of the goal at 53:01 to give MIT a 2-0 advantage.  
  • Barnouw tallied her second goal of the game, collecting a pass from Seebeck and putting her shot into the lower right corner of the net at 62:07 to make it 3-0 MIT. 
  • A corner kick from Lauren Won got kicked around, and a rebound off the crossbar off the foot of Amara Ukomadu fell to Andrea Cummings who lifted the ball into the net and made it a 4-0 Engineer lead at 84:49. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Barnouw increased her team and NEWMAC lead in goals and points to 15 and 41 respectively. This was her third multi-goal game of the season, and the 15 goals are a new career high. Her 41 points puts her in top-10 nationally.  
  • Seebeck now has nine goals and two assists for 20 points. Cummings scored her third goal of the season with Ukomadu notching her first assist of the season. 
  • The Engineer defense was yet again stellar, allowing just three shots with none on goal. Ava Muffoletto started and got her 13th win of the season. Maddy Noll and Cassidy Jennings each saw action in the second half. 

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT concludes the regular season on Saturday, November 1 on Roberts Field at 4:00 PM. The Lions will travel to Babson for a 1:00 PM match on Saturday.
