  • Records: No. 15 MIT (21-3 Overall, 9-0 NEWMAC); Wellesley (10-11 Overall, 4-5 NEWMAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Set 1: Following four ties and four lead changes, kills by Zhou and Eileen Sadati along with a Wellesley hitting error gave MIT an 11-9 edge. After a brief exchange of points, a kill by Ali Gibbs sparked an 8-2 run that resulted in a 20-13 lead. The Blue chipped away at the deficit as a kill brought it within 21-18. Both teams registered back-to-back points until a kill from Jessie Trapp gave the Engineers set point at 24-20. A hitting error extended the frame for the hosts, but Trapp replied with a kill to secure the win.
  • Set 2: MIT jumped out to a 7-1 advantage, however, Wellesley battled back as it came within one point on three occasions, the last at 17-16 courtesy of an ace. The Engineers responded with a kill from Zhou which sparked a 7-0 run. A kill kept the Blue alive, but a block by Kayleigh May and Claire Underwood thwarted the comeback attempt.
  • Set 3: A 5-1 burst gave MIT a 13-8 lead, however, Wellesley stayed within striking distance as a kill narrowed the gap to 19-15. This was as close as it would get as the Engineers claimed the final six points of the match.
