No. 12 Women's Soccer Takes 5-0 NEWMAC Win Over Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The No. 12 MIT women's soccer team saw five different players score as the Engineers earned their third consecutive NEWMAC shutout with a 5-0 road win over Coast Guard. 
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 5, Coast Guard 0 
  • Records: No. 12 MIT (9-2-0 Overall, 3-0-0 NEWMAC), Coast Guard (1-8-2, 0-3-0 NEWMAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  •  Natalie Barnouw got the Engineers on the board with a goal at 10:59 when she collected a pass from Alice Vranka and raced past the Bears defenders and converted on the score. 
  • A free kick from Gabriela de Brito found Andrea Cummings in front where she was able to tap the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-0 MIT at 34:25. 
  • Ayla Sumer collected a loose ball directly in front of the goal and fired it past the keeper at 54:32. 
  • Maeve Sullivan curled around her defender and lifted a shot from just inside the box into the goal to give the Engineers a four-goal lead at 59:11. 
  • Just over a minute later, off a corner from Barnouw, Madeline Seebeck got her head on the ball to defect it into the goal for the final score of the day for MIT. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Ava Muffoletto and Maddy Noll split the game in net with neither needing to record a save. Muffoletto got the win and improved to 8-0-0. 
  • Barnouw notched her 10th goal and sixth assist on the year while Sullivan scored her ninth. 
  • Sumer and Seebeck have two goals this season and Cummings' goal was the first of her career. 
  • Julia Little made five saves for the Bears.

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT will host Salve Regina on Wednesday, October 8 at 4:00 PM while the Bears will travel to Springfield for a 7:00 PM match.
