Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Three Second Half Goals Gives No. 11 Women's Soccer 3-0 Victory Over Salve Regina

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The No. 11 MIT women's soccer team scored three times in the second half to earn a 3-0 NEWMAC victory over Salve Regina on Wednesday afternoon on Roberts Field. 
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 3, Salve Regina 0 
  • Records: No. 11 MIT (10-2-0 Overall, 4-0-0 NEWMAC), Salve Regina (3-7-1, 1-3-0 NEWMAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • After 45 minutes of scoreless play which saw Salve keeper Emelia DaPonte turn away five Engineer shots on goal, MIT broke through with a goal just over three minutes into the second half. Leena Mehendale lifted a corner kick to the far side of the net where Madeline Seebeck was able to head the ball into the goal for the game's first goal. 
  • Maeve Sullivan raced past the Seahawks defense and went cross cage for her goal at 55:15 which made it 2-0 MIT. 
  • A corner kick from Lauren Won was punched out by Seahawks goalkeeper Reagan Moffatt and found Andrea Cummings who hooked a right-footed shot into the upper corner of the goal at 66:30. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Engineers have not allowed a goal in four NEWMAC contests this season and have allowed just three total shots on goal. 
  • Seebeck scored her third goal while Cummings scored her second. Sullivan is now tied for the team lead with 10 goals this season. 
  • Mehendale notched her third assist. 
  • Ava Muffoletto got the start for MIT and Maddy Noll played the second half to earn her second win of the season. 
  • DaPonte made five saves in the first half while Mofatt made six in the second half.  

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers remain on Roberts as they welcome Springfield on Saturday, October 11 for a 1:00 PM match. The Seahawks will play WPI on Saturday at noon.
