PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island College used a 7-2 run during the final 30 seconds of regulation to come from behind and defeat MIT, 58-57, in non-conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.
Ruth Lanouette led all players with 17 points and added eight rebounds, seven steals, five assists, and one block for the Engineers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- RIC used a 7-2 run to take a 14-11 lead, but MIT countered with a layup by Lanouette at the buzzer.
- The Engineers carried the momentum into the second stanza, outscoring the Anchormen, 20-8, to take a 33-22 advantage at halftime.
- MIT's lead grew to 42-31 following a three-point play by Mary Lobon midway through the third quarter. However, RIC chipped away at the deficit as a free throw brought it within 44-41 at the end of the frame.
- The score remained unchanged until a layup by the Anchormen at the 6:12 mark, which was followed by two free throws that put them in front, 45-44, with 5:33 on the clock. The Engineers responded with an 11-3 run that was capped by two Lanouette free throws with 28 seconds remaining.
- RIC buried a three pointer during its next possession, but April Chan followed with a free throw. After another trey by the hosts and a Chan free throw, the Anchormen sank a layup to come within 57-56 with five seconds left to play.
- RIC came up with a steal and then a foul sent it to the charity stripe where it drained both shots. The Anchormen forced another turnover to secure the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Riley O'Sullivan tallied 16 points, seven rebounds, two blocks, and two steals as Olivia Joseph produced nine points and six rebounds.
- Lobon ended the day with nine points and four rebounds.
