WACO, Texas – MIT football junior Dominic Hess has been selected to the 2025 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III Coaches' All-America Team. Hess was named to the All-America Second Team as a Defensive Back.
Hess, a junior from Damascus, Maryland, is the second AFCA All-America selection in program history, joining Paul Calvetti '22, who was named to the AFCA All-America second team as a graduate student in 2022.
Hess helped the Engineers finish with a 6-3 overall record and 4-3 mark in NEWMAC play in 2025, earning his first New England Football Writers (NEFW) All-New England College Division Team and NEWMAC All-Conference First Team selections. This season, he tied for the NEWMAC lead with five interceptions, while also recording 45 total tackles, 25 solo tackles, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.
Hess was the Week 9 Division II/III NEFW/Grinold Chapter Gold Helmet Award recipient on October 26 after recording a pair of second quarter interceptions, including a 39-yard pick six, to help the Engineers beat Salve Regina, 28-20. He was also a two-time NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week, on both October 27 and November 3. His second NEWMAC selection followed a 19-7 over WPI that saw Hess record his fifth interception and second pick six in a three-game span.
The AFCA's Division III All-America Selection Committee is made up of head coaches representing each conference from each of the AFCA's seven districts, one of whom serves as a district chairman, along with another head coach who serves as the chairman of the selection committee. The coaches in each district are responsible for ranking the top players in their respective districts prior to a conference call between the district chairmen and the committee chairman on which the team is chosen.
