NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – No. 6/7 Smith College used a 26-5 run that spanned the second and third quarters to help it register a 77-38 win over MIT in a NEWMAC women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon. Junior
Kaya Weiser (Villanova, Pa.) paced the Engineers with 11 points and added four rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A three pointer by Weiser with 38 seconds left in the opening quarter followed by a layup and later a free throw by junior Brianna Lebrun (Hartford, Conn.) brought MIT within 16-14 at the 8:31 mark of the second quarter.
- Smith created some breathing room courtesy of two free throws and a three pointer, however, a free throw by sophomore Mariam Abdelbarr (Durham, N.C.) and sophomore Sydney Baller (Littleton, Colo.) narrowed the gap to 21-16 with 6:49 on the clock.
- The Pioneers replied with a 15-5 run, resulting in a comfortable cushion at halftime.
- Smith opened the third quarter with 11 unanswered points before going on to establish a 63-28 advantage at the end of the frame.
- The hosts had a 14-10 scoring edge in the fourth quarter, setting up the 77-36 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Senior Elise Harvey (Wayland, Mass.) contributed six points, a team-high six rebounds, and a game-high three steals.
- Lebrun chipped in five rebounds and a block while junior Alice Hall (Ambler, Pa.) added four rebounds and a block.
- Smith is currently ranked No. 6 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 Coaches Poll and No. 7 in the D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll.
