WORCESTER, Mass. - The No. 9 MIT men's swimming and diving team took second place in the 800-Free Relay but hold the lead on the opening day of the 2025 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by WPI.
THE BASICS:
Standings: 1. MIT (103 Points) 2. U.S. Coast Guard Academy (93 Points), Babson (77 Points)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- 800 Free Relay: Sophomore Jason Wang (Brentwood, Tenn.), first year Grant Hu (Allen, Texas), sophomore Taylor Wagner (Colorado Springs, Colo.), and first year Gidean Karp (The Woodlands, Texas) took second with a time of 6:36.83.
- 3-Meter Dive: First year Truman Remenicky (Brewerton, N.Y.) finished in third with a score of 472.55 followed by sophomore Jack Tucker (Naples, Fla.) in fourth with a score of 398.35.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The 800 relay time is an NCAA B Cut and is faster than the 2024 invited time. Coast Guaard set a meet record with its winning time of 6:33.07.
- Remenicky's score was an NCAA Regional mark. The top-three finishers on the 3-Meter board all recorded NCAA Regional scores that were higher than last year's invited mark.

Day two of the 2025 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships will begin tomorrow, Friday February 21 with prelims at 10:00 AM and finals beginning at 6:00 PM. Tomorrow's events will include the 200 Free Relay, 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, and the 400 Medley Relay.
