WORCESTER, Mass. - The No. 9 MIT men's swimming and diving team used three more wins to extend their lead over Coast Guard on day two of the 2025 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championship at WPI.
THE BASICS:
Standings: 1. MIT - 498 Points, 2. Coast Guard - 382 Points, 3. Springfield – 271.5
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- 200 Free Relay: Sophomore Taylor Wagner (Colorado Springs, Colo.), sophomore Bryce Roberts (Mill Valley, Calif.), sophomore Aitor Arrese-Igor (Delray Beach, Fla.), and junior Eugene Jiang (Baton Rouge, La.) won with a time of 1:21.46.
- 500 Free: First year Kelson Cantrell (Walnut Creek, Calif.) took second with a time of 4:34.03 followed by sophomore John Tietjen (Leawood, Kan.) in third.
- 200 IM: Sophomore Jason Wang (Brentwood, Tenn.) took the top spot in 1:48.76. First year Grant Hu (Allen, Texas) finished second followed by senior Roderick Huang (Cupertino, Calif.) in third.
- 50 Free: Roberts took second in 20.65 while Jiang finished in 20.89 for fifth.
- 400 Medley Relay: Arrese-Igor, junior Thomas Wu (Cedar Park, Texas), first year Ben Wu (New Canaan, Conn.), and Roberts won in 3:1476.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Roberts and Jiang were members of last year's 200 Free Relay winning team.
- Roberts was a part of the 2024 400 Medley Relay win.
- Wang and Hu posted NCAA B Cut times that are faster than last year's invited time.
- The 400 Medley Relay team posted an NCAA B Cut time that is better than last year's invited time. The time is currently the ninth fastest in Division III.

The third day of 2025 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships will begin tomorrow, Saturday February 22 with prelims at 10:00 AM and finals beginning at 6:00 PM. Tomorrow's action will feature the 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, 1-Meter Dive, and the 200 Medley Relay. Prior to the start of the evening session will be the Senior Recognition Ceremony.
