No. 9 Men's Swim and Dive Wins Three More Events to Extend Lead at NEWMAC Championship

WORCESTER, Mass. - The No. 9 MIT men's swim and dive team held onto its lead with three more wins after three days of competition at the 2025 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championship at WPI. The Engineers will head into the final day of competition in search of the program's 19th Championship.  

THE BASICS:    

  • Standings: 1. MIT - 967, 2. Coast Guard - 729, 3. Babson - 508 

HOW IT HAPPENED:   

  • 400 IM: Sophomore Jason Wang (Brentwood, Tenn.) finished second with a time of 3:56.15. First year Kelson Cantrell (Walnut Creek, Calif.) took third in 3:57.55 followed by senior Roderick Huang (Cupertino, Calif.) and graduate student Aaron Zhu (Chelmsford, Mass.). 
  • 100 Fly: Sophomore Bryce Roberts (Mill Valley, Calif.) finished in 48.16 for second followed by first year Ben Wu (New Canaan, Conn.). 
  • 200 Free: First year Gidean Karp (The Woodlands, Texas) took third in 1:40.76 followed by graduate student Brian Li (Austin, Texas) and sophomore Taylor Wagner (Colorado Springs, Colo.). 
  • 100 Breast: Junior Thomas Wu (Cedar Park, Texas) finished in third with a time of 55.39. 
  • 100 Back: Sophomore Aitor Arrese-Igor (Delray Beach, Fla.) won in 49.19. 
  • 1-Meter Dive: First year Truman Remenicky (Brewerton, N.Y.) defeated sophomore Christian Butler (North Haven, Conn.) of Springfield by three points. Remenicky scored 495.50 to Butler's 492.50. 
  • 200 Medley Relay: Arrese-Igor, Thomas Wu, Roberts, and junior Eugene Jiang (Baton Rouge, La.) won with a time of 1:28.26. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Wang recorded an NCAA B Cut time on the 400 IM. 
  • Roberts swam an NCAA B Cut time in the 100 fly. He also earned his second win in the 200 Medley Relay. 
  • Arrese-Igor recorded an NCAA B cut in the 100 Back while defending his title. 
  • Remenicky notched an NCAA Diving Regional score. 

UP NEXT:   

  • The final day of the 2025 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships will begin tomorrow, Sunday February 23 with prelims at 10:00 AM and finals beginning at 6:00 PM. The event will conclude with the 1650 Free, 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, and the 400 Free Relay.
