WEST POINT, N.Y. – The MIT rifle team finished in third place at the NCAA Championship Qualifier hosted by Army on Saturday. The Black Knights claimed the top spot with 4,687 points, followed by Norwich (4.406), and the Engineers (4,372). In the individual aggregate standings, first-year
Eleanor Yang (San Jose, Calif.) ranked ninth with a total of 1,122 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED - SMALLBORE:
- Army totaled 2,324 points, followed by Norwich (2,197) and MIT (2,140).
- Yang led the way for the Engineers as she finished 12th with a score of 540.
- Junior Danny Antonelli (Houston, Texas) claimed the next spot with a total of 537 as junior Spruce Campbell (London, United Kingdom) ranked 14th with 532 points and sophomore Phoebe Xu (Fairbanks, Alaska) was 15th with 531 points.
- First-year Avaneesh Pal (San Antonio, Texas) rounded out MIT in 17th place with a score of 501.
HOW IT HAPPENED – AIR RIFLE:
- Army generated 2,363 points, followed by MIT (2,232) and Norwich (2,209).
- Yang captured eighth place with a personal-best score of 582 while Xu finished right behind her with 568 points.
- Antonelli placed 13th with a total of 549 as Campbell (533 points) and Pal (518 points) ranked 17th and 18th, respectively.
UP NEXT:
- MIT will host the Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference Championship on Saturday, March 1 and Sunday, March 2. The smallbore competition will begin on Saturday at 12:00 PM while air rifle will be held on Sunday starting at 9:30 AM.
