No. 19 Squash Goes 1-1 on Day One of MASC Championships

LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 19 MIT squash team went 1-1 on the opening day of the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championship, held in Lancaster, Pa. The Engineers opened the day with an 8-1 win over No. 27 Dickinson but dropped an 8-1 match to No. 7 Drexel.  
 
THE BASICS:

    • Drexel 8, MIT 1
  • Records: MIT (7-8), Dickinson (3-16), Drexel (7-4) 

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. DICKINSON 

  • After dropping the match in the first ladder, 3-1, the Engineers went on to win every other match, dropping only two sets the rest of the way. 
  • Junior Hyun Su Price (Philadelphia, Pa.) took a 3-2 win in the second position over graduate student Omar Ali (Cairo, Egypt). Su Price dropped the first set 10-12 but rallied to win the second set 11-4. Ali took set three 10-12, however Su Price won the final two. 
  • MIT grabbed 3-0 victories in ladders 3-9.  

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. DREXEL 

  • Drexel won six matches by 3-0 scores. 
  • Sophomore John Gunton (Lawrenceville, N.J.) got MIT on the board with a 3-1 win in the third ladder. After dropping set one 12-14, Gunton won the next three, 11-5, 12-10, 11-8.  

UP NEXT: 

  • MIT will play Navy in the third-place match, tomorrow, Sunday February 9 at 10:00 AM.
