No. 19 Squash Earns Third-Place Finish at MASC Championship With 7-2 Win Over No. 20 Navy

LANCASTER, Pa. – On Sunday morning, the No. 19 MIT squash team earned a third-place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Championship with a 7-2 victory over No. 20 Navy. The Engineers finished second in the Holley Cup Group 2 with a 1-1 record in pool play.    
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 7, Navy 2 
  • Records: No. 19 MIT (8-8), No. 20 Navy (16-9) 

HOW IT HAPPENED  

  • The Midshipmen grabbed wins in the first two positions, winning a 3-2 match in the first ladder and a 3-1 match in the second ladder. 
  • MIT won the rest of the matches, including two in five-sets.  
  • In the eighth ladder, graduate student Collin Wen (Short Hills, N.J.) defeated freshman Avinash Uppuluri (Short Hills, N.J.) in five sets as Wen rallied from down 0-2.  
  • Junior Mitav Nayak (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) also erased a 0-2 deficit in the sixth position to defeat sophomore Tighe Mullarkey (Locust Valley, N.Y.). 

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers return to the court on Tuesday, February 18 for a road contest against Harvard at 5:00 PM.
