Men’s Lacrosse Falls to No. 7 Bowdoin, 20-7

BRUNSWICK, Maine – No. 7 Bowdoin College used an 8-0 run in the third quarter to propel it to a 20-7 victory over MIT in a non-conference men's lacrosse game on Tuesday night. Senior Dylan Nelson (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) paced the Engineers with one goal and one assist.
 
THE BASICS:
  • Score: No. 7 Bowdoin 20, MIT 7
  • Records: MIT (3-3 Overall); No. 7 Bowdoin (6-0 Overall)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Bowdoin scored 1:19 into the game, but MIT responded with goals from first-year Riley Pierce (Vestavia, Ala.), Nelson, and junior Zach Bleil (New Canaan, Conn.) to build a 3-1 lead.
  • The Polar Bears rattled off three goals during the first 3:28 of the second quarter to go back in front.
  • Junior Oscar Lindenthal (Vero Beach, Fla.) evened the score at 4-4 on a feed from Nelson with 10:03 on the clock, however, Bowdoin generated four unanswered goals heading into halftime.
  • The Polar Bears found the back of the net 12 seconds after the opening faceoff of the third quarter, but junior Bryce Metalios (Old Greenwich, Conn.) brought the Engineers within 9-5 at the 12:23 mark.
  • This was as close as it would get as Bowdoin recorded eight consecutive goals in the frame and later held a 20-5 advantage with 9:53 left to play.
  • Junior Garrett Campagna (Lancaster, Pa.) ended MIT's scoring drought by redirecting a feed from junior CJ Sanchez (New Rochelle, N.Y.) with 6:46 on the clock.
  • Over five minutes later, first-year Alexander Shen (Atherton, Calif.) notched the final goal of the night.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Graduate student Andrew Palleiko (Hopkinton, Mass.) won 13 of 26 faceoff attempts and collected six groundballs.
  • Sophomore Ashton Axe (Portola Valley, N.Y.) contributed five groundballs and one caused turnover as sophomore Stone Smith (Roswell, Ga.) added four groundballs.
  • In net, junior Collin Lung (Lynbrook, N.Y.) racked up 16 saves.
