No. 2 Tufts Defeats Women’s Lacrosse, 19-3

MEDFORD, Mass. – In a non-conference women's lacrosse game on Thursday night, No. 2 Tufts University defeated MIT, 19-3, at Bello Field. Senior Sydney Pyon (Garnet Valley, Pa.) produced one goal, one assist, and four draw controls for the Engineers.
 
THE BASICS:
  • Score: No. 2 Tufts 19, MIT 3
  • Records: MIT (3-5 Overall); No. 2 Tufts (8-0 Overall)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Tufts registered six goals in the first quarter and had a 5-1 scoring advantage in the second quarter, resulting in an 11-1 halftime lead.
  • Junior Gwen Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) put MIT on the board when she connected on a pass from Pyon at the 8:50 mark of the second stanza.
  • The Jumbos put together a 7-0 run that spanned the third and fourth quarters, moving the score to 18-1.
  • Junior Annica Lam (Livingston, N.J.) ended the Engineers' scoring drought with 5:08 left to play and then Pyon followed with a player-advantage free position goal with 3:25 to go.
  • Tufts capped the scoring almost two minutes later.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Flusche chipped in two draw controls while first-year Kelsey Dwyer (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) generated two caused turnovers.
  • In the first half, sophomore goalie Pauline Vien (Brookline, Mass.) tallied nine saves, two groundballs, and one caused turnover.
  • Sophomore Ashton Flather (Ipswich, Mass.) closed out the game in net with three saves, three groundballs, and one caused turnover.
