CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – In her first appearance at the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Singles Championship,
Saina Deshpande saw her run come to an end in the second round at Manker Patten Tennis Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Friday afternoon. This was the fifth consecutive year No. 11 MIT made an appearance in the second round.
In the first round against No. 2 seed Maegan Deng of Redlands, Deshpande trailed 3-2 but battled back to claim a 6-3 victory in the first set. She carried the momentum into the second set as she went on to record a 6-0 decision.
In the second round versus Lia Melvin of Johns Hopkins, Deshpande turned a 2-1 deficit into a 5-2 advantage. However, Melvin battled back to take the opening set, 7-5. Melvin raced out to a 4-0 lead in the second set, but Deshpande took the next game. After trading the next two games, Melvin fought off Deshpande to capture a 6-2 victory.
