No. 8 Men’s Lightweight Crew Varsity Eight Wins Heat on Opening Day of Knecht Cup

CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The No. 8 MIT men's lightweight crew team varsity eight took first place in the varsity eight heat, advancing to Sunday's final at the Knecht Cup Regatta on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.

THE BASICS:

N4+: 5th of 6 (8:44.04) in Heat 1
V8+: 1st of 5 (6;22.20) in Heat 1
2V8+: 2nd of 6 (6:30.06)

RACE BY RACE:

N4+: Making their collegiate debut, MIT's Novice Four, stroked by first year Andy Yang (Irmo, S.C.) took fifth in Heat 1, finishing in 8:44.04. Lafayette had the top time in MIT's heat, finishing in 8:18.90.
V8+: MIT's Varsity Eight, stroked by junior Kieran Dunn (Melrose, Mass.), took the top time in the opening heat finishing 5.39 seconds ahead of second place Mercyhurst with a time of 6:22.20 to advance to Sunday's final.
2V8+: MIT was second in a tight second varsity eight heat. The Engineers, stroked by sophomore Christopher Hom (Manhasset, N.Y.), finished 3.06 seconds back of Trinity with a time of 6:30.06. Trinity had the top time in 6:27 flat. MIT was 2.31 seconds ahead of third place Mercyhurst in 6:32.37.
