CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT outscored Salve Regina University, 7-1, in the second quarter as it went on to defeat the Seahawks, 19-3, in a NEWMAC women's lacrosse game on Saturday afternoon at Jack Barry Field. Junior
Annica Lam (Livingston, N.J.) amassed nine goals and two assists, tying the program record for points in a game and falling one goal shy of tying the MIT record for goals in a game. Sophomore Daniella Bruno (Niantic, Conn.) paced Salve Regina with two goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lam opened the scoring after 3:43 elapsed and then increased MIT's advantage at the 5:04 mark. Junior Ashley Thomas (Summit, N.J.) buried a free position goal with 2:59 on the clock as senior Sydney Pyon (Garnet Valley, Pa.) moved the score to 4-0 exactly 58 seconds later.
- Junior Gwen Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.) registered a free position goal 59 seconds into the second quarter. However, Bruno countered with a goal that was set up by senior Samantha Moleti (Township of Washington, N.J.) two minutes later. The Engineers replied with six straight goals as Lam scored the first three and earned assists on blasts by Thomas and Pyon. Thomas later gave the hosts an 11-1 advantage heading into halftime as she redirected a feed from senior Julianne Flusche (Ridgewood, N.J.).
- The score remained unchanged until senior Edie Threshie (Stratford, Conn.) connected on a pass from first-year Nora Cooney (Portsmouth, R.I.) at the 9:06 mark of the third quarter. Bruno then made the score 11-3 with 6:20 remaining.
- Lam ended MIT's scoring drought with just under five minutes left while junior Nina Petulla (Natick, Mass.) found the back of the net a minute later.
- The Engineers closed out the game with six unanswered goals in the fourth quarter. Lam generated three goals as sophomore Ava Malysa (Manhasset, N.Y.) scored twice.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- This was the sixth time the program record for points in a game was tied. Laura Wacker '13 set the record in 2012 and established the standard for goals in a game the following season.
- Thomas tallied three goals and four assists while Pyon finished with two goals, three groundballs, three caused turnovers, and two draw controls.
- Gwen Flusche corralled seven draw controls as sophomore Jillian Butler (Brecksville, Ohio) collected two groundballs, two caused turnovers, and two draw controls.
- In net, sophomore Pauline Vien (Brookline, Mass.) made two saves in the first half while classmate Ashton Flather (Ipswich, Mass.) made six stops in the second half.
- First-year Adelaide Baird (Springfield, Va.) notched three groundballs and two caused turnovers as senior Cameron Baston (Plantsville, Conn.) registered three draw controls.
- In net, first-year Flynn Kayajan (Hyannis, Mass.) amassed 16 saves and two groundballs.
