CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Junior Jake Cobb (West Deptford, N.J.) was first in the Steeplechase and senior Ziyad Hassan (Ashburn, Va.) was the top Division III competitor in the mile as the No. 18 MIT men's track and field team hosted Distance Night to open the 2025 Sean Collier Invitational on Friday evening at Steinbrenner Stadium.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS - Running Events:
- 3000m Steeplechase: Cobb was first in 9:05.92. Sophomore Hunter Miller (Greencastle, Ind. ) finished in 7th with a time of 9:56.18.
- Mile: Senior Ziyad Hassan (Ashburn, Va.) was 6th in 4:11.17. Senior Sam Coutts (Pacific Grove, Calif.) was 10th in 4:14.98.
- 5000m: Junior Tim Neumann (Downers Grove, Ill.) was eighth in 14:49.98. Grad student Nicholas Medearis (Palo Alto, Calif.) was 11th in 15:10.26.
- 10000m: Sophomore Yichen Sun (Chapel Hill, N.C.) took ninth in 30:37.01 to lead MIT. First year Renne Cooper (Austin, Texas) was 13th in 30:52.82.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Cobb's time in the Steeplechase is currently eighth in Division III. Miller's time was a big PR, dropping form his previous best of 10:08.65.
- Neumann established a collegiate best in the 5000m with his finish. Medearis was 40 seconds under his previous best time.
- Sun set a new PR in the 10000m while Cooper posted his first collegiate time in the event. Sun's time is the 39th best in Division III this season.
