CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT opened the game with seven unanswered goals, propelling it to a 17-4 victory over Wheaton College in a NEWMAC men's lacrosse game on Saturday afternoon at Jack Barry Field. Senior
Nick Stiles (New Canaan, Conn.) totaled four goals and two assists for the Engineers while sophomore Theo Stamatel (Plainsville, Mass.) posted two goals and two groundballs for the Lyons.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- MIT generated five goals in a span of 6:22, capped by senior Patrick Timons (Woodside, Calif.) at the 7:53 mark. Stiles scored twice during the burst, including the opening tally of the game, and added an assist on a blast by junior CJ Sanchez (New Rochelle, N.Y.). First-year Riley Pierce (Vestavia, Ala.) recorded the final goal of the quarter, coming with 2:17 on the clock.
- Stiles completed the hat trick on pass from junior Zach Bleil (New Canaan, Conn.) just 1:34 into the second stanza, increasing the advantage to 7-0.
- Wheaton ended the shutout when senior Jack Board (Westborough, Mass.) connected on a pass from senior Mike McLaughlin (Stoughton, Mass.) midway through the quarter. However, Bleil and Stiles found the back of the net to give the Engineers a 9-1 lead at halftime.
- Three minutes into the third quarter, Stamatel scored on a feed from junior Pason Fielding (Carlisle, Mass.). MIT countered with three goals, the last by junior Oscar Lindenthal (Vero Beach, Fla.) with 59 seconds remaining.
- The Lyons trimmed their deficit to 12-4 courtesy of goals by sophomore Evan Paturzo (Bellingham, Mass.) and Stamatel, the latter coming at the 7:35 mark. The Engineers responded with five goals during the last 5:42 of the game. The late run was highlighted by blasts from graduate student Jack McCordic (Medfield, Mass.), senior Dylan Nelson (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.), and first-year Mikey Mondiello (Manhasset, N.Y.), who scored the first goal of his career.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Bleil posted two goals and one assist as Pierce registered a hat trick.
- Graduate student Justin Gelwicks (Katonah, N.Y.) won 12 of 16 faceoff attempts and collected nine groundballs while sophomore Denley Kofoed (Centennial, Colo.) had a 4-of-6 performance at the faceoff "x".
- Senior Brennan Hoppa (Hampstead, N.H.) and junior Tim Haarmann (Boxford, Mass.) both produced four groundballs and two caused turnovers as junior Isaiah Nathaniel (Scotch Plains, N.J.) added four groundballs.
- In net, junior Collin Lung (Lynbrook, N.Y.) made six saves in 48 minutes. First-year AJ Sachwitz (Falls Church, Va.) turned away two shots in nine minutes while classmate Caiden Lung (Lewes, Del.) made one stop down the stretch.
- Junior Karter Noyes (Manchester Center, Vt.) tallied five groundballs and one caused turnover as McLaughlin contributed four groundballs and one caused turnover.
- Fielding generated one assist, three groundballs, and two caused turnovers while first-year Zach Wyborney (Amherst, N.H.) produced three caused turnovers and two groundballs.
- In net, senior Connor Almstrom (Cumberland, R.I.) collected 15 saves.

- Both teams will wrap up the regular season against NEWMAC opponents on Saturday, April 26 at 1:00 PM. MIT will travel to Salve Regina University while Wheaton will host Springfield College.
