CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The No. 8 MIT men's lightweight crew team finished as the runner-up in the varsity eight, second varsity eight and second varsity fours on Sunday at the Knecht Cup Regatta on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.

THE BASICS:

• V8+: 2nd
• 2V8+: 2nd
• 2V4+: 2nd
• N4+: 9th

RACE BY RACE: 

• V8+: In a tight final for the William J. Knecht Memorial Trophy, Trinity finished in 5:50.10, 1.60 seconds ahead of MIT. The Engineers stroked by junior Kieran Dunn (Melrose, Mass.) finished in 5:51.70.
• 2V8+: The second varsity eight, stroked by sophomore Christopher Hom (Manhasset, N.Y. ) was narrowly defeated in the closest race of the day, trailing Trinity by 0.11 seconds.  The two crews traded seats all the way down the course before Trinity finished in 6:10.84 with MIT across the line in 6:10.95.
• 2V4+: The field in the second varsity four spread out throughout the race, with Colgate taking first in 7:08.12. MIT followed, 16.82 seconds back with a time of 7:24.94. However, the Engineers were 11.21 ahead of third place Lehigh.
• N4+: MIT finished in third place in the petit finals and 9th overall with a time of 7:44.64. The Engineers were five seconds back of second place UMass in their heat. MIT improved over a minute from its time in the heats.
