CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Meg Sisson French, the Mary Frances Wagley, '47 Head Coach of MIT Swimming and Diving, has been named the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Women's Swim Coach of the Year. The coach of the year awards were determined by a vote of CSCAA-Member Division III head swimming coaches and head diving coaches at the NCAA Championships, which were held from March 19-22 in Greensboro, N.C.
Sisson French helped lead the top-ranked women's team to its first National Championship in program history while becoming the first female to coach a National Championship winning team at the event. The women's team broke or tied three national records while winning four relays and three individual titles. The team earned 45 All-America honors as they were able to erase a 20-point deficit on the final day of action to overtake NYU for the title.
The Engineers won all 20 events at the NEWMAC Swim and Dive Championships earlier this season for the program's 14th title. Sisson French and her staff were named the Swim Staff of the Year and the team also picked up the Diving Staff of the Year, Diver of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Swimmer of the Year awards.
