Men's Track and Field Opens NCAA Division III Championships

GENEVA, Ohio -- Junior Tim Neumann (Downers Grove, Ill.) finished fourth in the preliminaries of the 1500m, advancing to Saturday's final, as the MIT track and field team opened the 2025 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday at the SPIRE Institute's Outdoor Track & Field facility. 

THE BASICS:

  • Top Five Team Scores: 1. Wis.-Oshkosh (24); 2. Wis.-Eau Claire (12); 3. Wheaton (Mass.) (10); T4. Rowan (8); T4. Ripon (8) 

HOW IT HAPPENED - Field Events: 

  • Javelin: Sophomore Jonah Goldstein (Pasadena, Calif.): was 15th with a throw of 57.26m (187' 10") on his second attempt. Goldstein did not advance to the final in his second NCAA appearance. 
HOW IT HAPPENED - Track Events: 
  • 1500m (Prelim): Neumann finished fourth in heat two and fourth overall in 3:51.74, advancing to Saturday's final. 
  • 3000m Steeplechase: Senior Pablo Arroyo (Richardson, Texas) and junior Jake Cobb (West Deptford, N.J.) finished 20th and 21st, respectively. Arroyo finished in 9:17.58 and Cobb clocked in at 9:21.78. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Neumann is making his first appearance at outdoor nationals.
  • Goldstein improved six spots from his first NCAA appearance, earning second team All-America honors after taking 21st at the 2024 Outdoor Championships.  
  • Arroyo was making his second appearance at outdoor nationals after finishing 17th in the steeple in 2023. Cobb was making his first NCAA appearance. 

NEXT UP:

  • Action continues from Geneva tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM.  
  • Junior Jackson Bliey (Talleyville, Del.) and sophomore Anthony Meng (Scottsdale, Ariz.): will compete in the high jump at 2:00 PM. 
  • MIT's entries on the track include Walter Truitt (Houston, Texas) in the 110m Hurdles Prelim at 2:10 PM as well as Charlie Glass (Austin, Texas), Ziyad Hassan (Ashburn, Va.), Simon Opsahl (Redlands, Calif.) and David Whitaker (Northville, Mich.) in the prelim of the 800m at 4:00 PM.
