Men’s Lightweight Varsity 4+ Wins Petite Final at IRA National Championship

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. — The MIT men's lightweight crew Varsity 4+ posted a wire-to-wire victory in the Men's Lightweight Varsity 4+ Petite Final, finishing seventh overall in the event on Saturday at the IRA National Championship on the Cooper River.  

THE BASICS:

  • V4+: 1st of 4 (Petite Final) - 7th Overall

RACE BY RACE:

  • V4+: The Petite Final belonged to the Engineers as MIT never trailed in defeating Princeton, Dartmouth and Gordon. MIT opened up a slight lead over Princeton through the first 500m but by the 1000m mark the Engineers had moved three seconds up on the Tigers. MIT maintained its edge at the 1500m mark, adding a seat to its advantage before the Engineers put away the field in the final 500m sprint to win in 6:39.870. Princeton was second in 6:48.910.

  • The men's lightweight Varsity 8+ will race in the IRA National Championship Varsity 8+ Grand Final on Sunday at 11:40 AM (Event #87).
  • MIT will be making its first appearance in the Grand Final since 1993.
